Imagine waiting six months for your HVAC unit to arrive, and when it does, it’s damaged beyond use.
And with current supply chain shortages, you can’t expect manufacturers to move your order to the front of the line simply because a freight carrier damaged it.
Here in Alaska, we’re running into extreme supply chain shortages with our HVAC equipment and products. Because Alaska falls at the end of this shortage, we face greater delays than the rest of the US.
If you’re a homeowner or business owner who’s interested in a new HVAC unit this year and want to avoid service interruption due to the delays and shortage of parts to repair (or equipment to replace) your HVAC system, here’s how to get ahead of the supply chain.
Understand Why HVAC Supply Chain Shortages Happen
Current supply chain shortages continue to happen because of a lack of steel, aluminum, plastics, copper, and semiconductors. Production timelines also slow down because of these shipment delays.
Essentially, we’re limited by equipment and materials.
Many that were previously stocked at local suppliers now require lead times. Other items that typically need 4-6 weeks of lead time might now require 4-6 months.
For example, a commercial rooftop unit ordered in August used to take six weeks to manufacture and deliver. The unit could be installed in October. Now, because of these shortages, it may be up to 25 weeks before the unit is manufactured. The same unit ordered in August may not be installed until February.
What to Expect from Diamond Heating & AirTemp Alaska During These Shortages
Supply chain, manufacturing, and freight delays are factors we have no control over. And while these conditions continue to raise prices on several products, these issues are not specific to our industry.
It’s a global problem that’s currently getting worse.
Unfortunately, no one knows how long this will last, but we are hopeful that it will be a short-term issue.
Still, you should plan ahead during this time (and expect the worst).
Understand that items you used to be able to count on arriving one day just may not, delivery times are unpredictable. Worst case scenario, the item may come damaged and we may have to reorder the product.
To help, we have expanded our inventory. In addition, we’ve ordered items far in advance so that when a higher demand approaches us, we can serve all your HVAC needs to the best of our ability.
Why You Need to Schedule A Professional Maintenance Appointment Now
Maintenance is the best way to avoid service interruption and extend the life of your equipment both residentially and commercially. This also provides an opportunity for our service professional to update you regarding the projected life expectancy and condition of your current HVAC equipment
If you have aging equipment, please consider a total replacement as soon as possible. Waiting for your equipment to fail could leave you without service (as equipment may not be available for immediate installation).
Some Helpful HVAC Tips For Consideration Between Annual Maintenances
- Check and replace your air filters. We recommend checking for dust accumulation every 90 days (and sooner if you have pets or allergies). Clogged HVAC air filters are one of the most common causes of system failures. If dust and debris settle into your HVAC, proper airflow can’t circulate in your home or business. GIve us a call for special pricing and delivery on cases of filters.
- Have a smart thermostat installed by a professional. If you want to increase energy efficiency and savings, buy a wi-fi-enabled and app-compatible unit. This way, you can remotely control the inside temperature using your smartphone. We recommend setting your thermostat to 68 degrees when occupied (and lowering your temperature by 10-12 degrees) when you’re away.
- Test your system. Is it working the way it should? Take note of any unusual leaking, smells, or noises and report them to us during your maintenance appointment.
